Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ is confirmed by Netflix

“Damn you people, this is golf!” Fans of the beloved 1996 golf comedy ‘Happy Gilmore’ have a reason to celebrate: a sequel is officially coming to Netflix, with Adam Sandler reprising his iconic role.

Netflix announced the exciting news during its upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday afternoon in New York City.

Adam Sandler, who starred in and co-wrote Universal Pictures’ ‘Happy Gilmore,’ will return to the role that solidified his place as a comedy legend. Dennis Dugan directs the original film, which remains one of Sandler’s most famous works.

In ‘Happy Gilmore,’ Sandler plays a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers a surprising talent for golf. To save his grandmother’s house, Happy enters the professional golf circuit and squares off against the arrogant pro-Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald. The film’s cast also includes Julie Bowen and Carl Weathers.

Rumours of a sequel began swirling in March when McDonald revealed that Sandler had shown him the first draft during an unexpected encounter.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'” McDonald shared. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”

The original ‘Happy Gilmore’ grossed nearly $40 million worldwide in 1996, cementing Sandler’s status as one of the decade’s top comedy stars.
