Microsoft has just unveiled the latest Surface Pro, part of the new Copilot Plus PC lineup. The new Pro, technically the 11th edition, starts at $999, is available in four colors, and is powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon X processors. The base model features a 13-inch LCD screen, with an option to upgrade to an OLED display on higher-end models. Design and Hardware

The overall design of the Surface Pro remains consistent, featuring the familiar tablet with an integrated kickstand that has become a staple for the Surface line. On a desk, there is no noticeable bounce, and even on my lap, it felt sturdier than past Surface Pro keyboards.

This is enabled by a tiny battery inside the keyboard’s base, which also powers the new haptic feedback on the trackpad. While the haptic feedback isn’t as pronounced as on the Surface Laptop Studio 2, it’s a welcome addition.

The trackpad itself has been improved, positioned closer to the bottom row of keys and broader than before, making it more comfortable to use.

Display and Performance

The standout upgrade in the new Surface Pro is the 13-inch OLED display, available only on the top-tier Snapdragon X Elite models. The display is incredibly crisp, and as someone who owns a 32-inch OLED display at home, I appreciate the vibrancy and clarity that OLED provides. While Microsoft hasn’t specified which OLED panel is used, it isn’t the tandem one from LG Display. Viewing angles are solid, though there’s no anti-reflective coating so that reflections can be seen under bright light. However, it performed excellently with natural light in Microsoft’s demo area.

Connectivity and Efficiency

The new Surface Pro includes two USB-C ports and now supports Wi-Fi 7. Weighing in at just under two pounds, it’s not significantly thinner or lighter than previous models, but Microsoft promises significant battery life improvements, making these devices more efficient.

User Experience

Overall, the new Surface Pro feels very responsive, comparable to any other Windows laptop. The Qualcomm chip inside doesn’t make itself apparent. If Microsoft’s promises of app compatibility, performance, and battery life hold, this could mark a significant advancement for Windows devices like the Surface Pro.
